Summertime Friday 5

Says Songbird:
It's possible I may have a bad attitude about the arrival of summer. On the eve of the Solstice I left for a mission trip to a town in Maine bordering Quebec. Beset by a swarm of bloodthirsty black flies, and a "classic allergic reaction" according to the PA at the Urgent Care, I had to return the next morning to a week of Benadryl and ice packs. (If only I had known about Bug Band *before*...)

But I don't want that to ruin summer for the rest of you. So I invite you to share five things you love--or don't--about summer. The tone is up to you!

Well, let's see:
It's been brutally hot here, even for June, and so there's been no kayaking. Of course, the move (90% accomplished) has a lot to do with that.
I stepped in an ant hill Wednesday putting out the trash at the old place. Not even fire ants, just little bitey black ones. Turns out I'm allergic to those, so I too am on Benadryl. At least I'm sleeping well.
I love, love, love the long sunny days--time to unpack, play with the WonderMutt, or sleep off some of the Benadryl.
I have a convertible...although anything over 90 is really too hot here (can't forget the humidity!) to have the top down. Used the drive to work yesterday to dry my hair.
Homegrown vegetables. I had roasted yellow squash, cucumber salad (basically a quick refrigerator pickle), and sliced tomatoes for supper last night.
And last, but certainly not least: when the kids are out of school, there are lots of fun things going on. Vacation Bible School (we're in Egypt this year!), MYF trips, the Beaufort Old Homes Tour, which means our young adults are selling homemade ice cream (which is what I'll be having for lunch), the Pirate Invasion, and hopefully lots of tourism to help the economy. Heaven knows we need it.
Happy Summer, ya'll!

  3. Benadryl sleep is *un*believable! I don't think I've slept so soundly in years. And the dreams!

  5. Your summer days are very inviting. I seem to have lost my PJ's in my move...either at the old parsonage or they went to The Hem. Your description of dinner made me hungry. When do I get to ride in the convertible with you? Miss tea and conversations with you
