Friday Five: What You Absolutely, Positively, Can't Leave Home Without

From Singing Owl:
We will be at a chaplain's convention when you all are answering the Friday Five Questions. I'll look forward to reading your answers next week when I get home. At the moment we are trying to get the car loaded so we can hit the road, so this will be a simple F.F. This running around madly in order to leave has me wondering: what are the five things you simply must have when you are away from home? And why? Any history or goofy things, or stories?

1: Seriously: glasses & contact case. Once I slept in my contacts for 5 days--I don't recommend it.
2: Something to do with my hands. I took watercolors, which came in handy for a project, and yarn and a crochet hook to NJ. I get bored easily if I don't have something (besides #3) to amuse myself with while traveling.
3: Books. Lots of books. Novels, of course, because I've never been one to read non-fiction for fun.
4. I prefer to travel with my own pillow, when possible. Can't do it anymore travelling by air (not if I want to avoid the new checked-bag charges) and so I'm in deep mourning. Considering a protest of some sort. Maybe if we all shipped pillows to the airlines?
5. Snacks. I don't eat a lot of the stuff people eat for snacks, although I will admit to the occasional Cheetos binge (prefer crunchy; puffs will do. Chester's Puff Corn rocks). So I usually have some snack packs of nuts with a Fiber One bar, or a piece or two of string cheese with a Luna bar. And water; I'm trying to learn to keep a bottle with me all the time, so that I'm not tempted to drink soda or something I'm not. Geez, that all sounds so self-righteous. Sorry, guys & gals, I don't mean to!

  1. Ouch-- five days of sleeping in contacts makes me want Visine!

  2. I'm with you on the pillow thing. I like my pillow! I want my pillow! It's MY pillow, dangit! And it's hard enough to sleep in strange places, without having to deal with, (excuse me) crappy pillows on top of it!

    Have a great weekend,

  3. Good play! I actually thought of putting glasses/contacts, too. It's so annoying to be without one or the other.

  4. I like my own pillow, too. Am rather worried about the new airline restrictions, as we're traveling to WA State in two weeks. I'm impressed that you're crafty.
