F5: Winter's On Its Way edition

From Singing Owl at the RevGals:
I am looking at the weather forecast with a sigh of resignation. You see, our glorious unseasonable stretch of sunny days is ending and rain mixed with snow is in the forecast. The weather guy actually said, "This is probably the last nice day till spring, folks..." So, I am trying to plan ahead. Help me out, please. When it is cold outside:

1. What is your favorite movie for watching when curled up under a wooly blanket?
(I'm such a geek) Sci fi. Firefly & Serenity. The Matrix trilogy. Star Wars (any but esp. the older trilogy. Ewoks!). Whatever's on my Netflix queue.
But really, it's more likely to be me and my Kindle, so on to the next question.
2. Likewise, what book?
Whatever interesting books I've found on the top 100 free books list at Amazon. I'm getting ready to read the umpteenth book in the Wheel of Time series started by Robert Jordan, which just came out. Fortunately it's not been too long since the last one--who knew that when the man died, his publishing schedule would accelerate? Again, I lean toward Sci Fi and fantasy, so stories about magic, vampires, and space operas. And Hobbits...can't forget them.
3. What foods do you tend to cook/eat when it gets cold?
Chili and soups and stews, oh my. And cold for us here at the coast starts in the 50s, so I'm ready. There's a chicken pot pie in my future tonight.
4. What do you like to do if you get a "snow day" (or if you don't get snow days, what if you did)?
Nap, a lot. Play outside with the WonderMutt, if I'm at home. We were gifted with 2 snow days last week on vacation, and I spent my time sprawled on a loveseat alternately napping, reading, and saying dreamily, "It's snowing again. Pretty."
5. Do you like winter sports or outdoor activities, or are you more likely to be inside playing a board game?
I'm going to be indoors. I like cool, but not cold.
Do you have a favorite (indoors or out)?
I really don't. I'm a horrendous winner, really competitive, and so I don't generally play with other people because I can't behave. What's silly about it is that I can lose with some grace. Winning turns me into an unkind person. And like most really competitive people, I only want to play games I think I can win, at least some of the time. I play PC games: match 3s, tetris analogues, and puzzle games. I can curse the computer all I want and no one's feelings get hurt--unless I'm playing on the Wii, and then sometimes it hurts mine. Darned Wii Fit.

  1. I'll have to try some Robert Jordan. My favorite is David Eddings who wrote a series of trilogies starting with the Belgariad. Enjoyed reading your play.

  4. I've never read Robert Jordan, even though three of my four adult children like his books. They're around, so I should try them. Thanks for the recommendation; why would I listen to you more than the kids???

  5. Me too, I'd like some chicken pot pie please.

I've gotten away from reading fantasy fiction but always wish I'd find another author to put me back in it--Marion Zimmer Bradley held my interest for a long time.

  6. I'm competitive like that, too. My partner is not at all competitive and doesn't really get it.
