Friday 5: Games edition

From Jan over at RevGalBlogPals:
In less than three weeks, my family, including children and their partners, will be gathering in Seattle, WA for 12 days. After various days in Seattle sightseeing and in Bellingham seeing family, we will travel to the coast of Washington State to spend three nights in a large rented house. With nine adults (from almost 20 years old and up), I am thinking that we need to have some activities pre-planned--like GAMES! (Any ideas will be appreciated.)

So this Friday Five is about games, so play on ahead. . . .

1. Childhood games?
Oh boy...I've always been so competitive. Loved hide & seek and TV Tag, though. And I still play the occasional round of Duck-Duck-Goose with the youth group...some modifications to the rules, of course)

2. Favorite and/or most hated board games?
Monopoly (both). Used to love Life and Sorry.

3. Card games?
Uno! Still love it, but don't play much.

4. Travel/car games?
I usually read in the car...we used to watch the signs and count down how many exits to our next stop, etc.

5. Adult pastimes that are not video games?
Hmmm...do reading and watching videos count? I like crosswords and brainteasers sometimes, but we're not big game players.

Bonus: Any ideas for family vacations or gatherings?
Tell stories...made up stories, campfire stories, and especially share favorite memories. My 3 year old niece has become quite the little story-teller, so anyone can play along...and I think it's a great way to preserve family memories and get to know one another better.

Bonus Bonus: as I write this, I'm sitting in the local coffee shop where I keep "office hours" on Fridays. Just watched a little girl (4 or 5) turn over several boxes of games to get to Clue. "Mommy, my want to play this one." Too cute. Also, I forgot that I used to really like Clue. Col. Mustard in the library with a candlestick!

  1. OMG! Miss Scarlet, in the kitchen with the rope... or Professor Plum in the library with the revolver... so classic indeed!

  2. Reading in the car was a standby for us in our early married years with a car with no radio -- I read mysteries out loud, he drove. Later I read to the kids -- 101 Dalmatians on one trip from MN to ME. It's great if you don't get carsick, which I don't.

  3. When our family gets together we play Bingo. Great for young and old. We buy inexpensive fun and/or useful items for prizes at the $ store.
