f5: redo, refresh, restore edition

From Songbird over at the RevGals:
We're in the thick of it in church life as we approach the end of Lent. Palm Sunday and Holy Week await. In the midst of this busy-ness, I undertook a little redecorating here at RevGalBlogPals and found a new template for us.

It's the sort of task I like in the middle of chaos, a chance to redo something, to refresh the way I feel, to restore some sense of order.

Please share with us five ways you redo or refresh or restore your body, your space, your blog, anything in your life that needs perking up this week.

1: I'm a fan of blog prettiness myself. I prefer to design my own header (which is the limit of what I have been able to figure out how to do) but I have recently been inspired by another RevGal to swap out backgrounds from time to time. I'm due for a new look...

2: Taking a break. Last week we took a couple of days off and went to Wilmington NC for a little rest. Hot stone massage=bliss, that's all I'm saying!

3: Fixing one really good meal or treat. I love to bake, and I really like to cook in general. I read food blogs and pick out something new to try every now and then. Last month it was crockpot mac & cheese, which was really good...but way too much food for the two of us.

4: Organizing. I am not a neat person. I'm actually pretty much a slob, and when I'm feeling particularly busy, the effort to keep things put neatly away becomes too much to handle. If I lived with a neat person, he could help, but I don't. ('nuff said there... ;) ) So every now and then I organize something small, and try to keep it neat for a while. The buffet in the dining room is in my sights right now!

5: Create a routine. When I get tired or busy, things start to feel kind of chaotic. It helps to have some routines that create some stability in the mess. For example, right now I'm having my Friday morning coffee shop office hours. I try to do this every week, or at least every week I'm in town. It helps me feel anchored, a bit. (So does the weekly f5, which has been sacrificed to dissertation-writing. Hopefully I'm nearly finished revising.

  1. Another massage person! I think that cinches it for me. Time to schedule one!

We share some similar avenues for renewal. I'm trying to instill more regular cleaning routines so that the house doesn't feel like such a burden of care. With one day under my belt I can attest that it's working!

Due to an increasing number of spam comments, I've had to resort to comment moderation. I don't plan to delete any comments that aren't spam, but be nice anyway. My family reads this blog.
